Royal Hua-Hin Golf Course has been constructed around the base of some substantial limestone hills. The terrain is very typical of the area and these majestic masses are covered with lush tropical growth clinging precariously to cliff overhangs and huge boulders which somehow defy all known laws of gravity. There are constant reminders of the foundations of the Thai culture with Buddhist temples (Wats) perched in the hills and almost lost in the impenetrable forest which surrounds them.
Opened in 1924, ht course was originally commissioned by H.R.H. Prince Kampaengpetch and designed by a Scottish railway engineer named Mr.A.O.Robins. Born in a country where for decades golf courses were created rather than designed, Mr.Robins has shown the same flair and imagination as his ancestors, and converted this perfect location into one of the most natural courses in South East Asia.
Royal Hua-Hin is the most "senior" of the par 72 golf courses in Thailand. Consequently it has a long history as a venue for major professional and amateur tournaments, and is certainly very popular with local and foreign golfers. These sentiments are reinforced as the annual pilgrimage of overseas visitors continues to grow and more discover the pleasures of this exacting and delightful layout.
